Accounting and Finance is about the concepts of money, business and management, with an emphasis on professional careers in these areas. This program is designed to address the accounting and financial aspects in a balanced way. While accounting concepts such as information analysis for different aspects of businesses are addressed, finance related concerns of the business’s monetary funds are given equal importance.

Accounting and Finance are two of the most rapidly developing scientific fields, both at research and professional levels. This program is designed to give students understanding of concepts in accounting, finance and the financial markets. A successful career in these areas requires a high level of understanding of the theory and practice of accounting and finance, in order to be able to evaluate company and managerial performance. As such, it is necessary for the student to have a working knowledge of mathematical skills. Although this program is designed in a way that students with a sound knowledge of mathematics or statistics at advanced level can manage to grasp the concepts taught during the course, it is expected that the student of this Master’s program has undertaken a statistics or business mathematics module ate the undergraduate studies.

The program focuses on developing skills and attitude necessary to make sense of the financial markets that are constantly evolving in complexity. This calls for the study of sophisticated and academically rigorous concepts, in order to be able adapt to the rapidly changing needs of a successful career in finance.   At the same time, the use of accounting information is indispensable for undertaking financial analysis, which can be an asset for a career in areas of finance, and particularly the investment banking industry. Studying accounting and finance at postgraduate level is also meant to provide a solid academic background for career advancement in all areas of the accounting profession.

This program will also help develop focus on building leadership and management skills that are essential for functioning at the executive level. Modules are integrated to develop management skills necessary to efficiently manage and inspire people to be productive at work.

After completion of this course the successful candidate will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and experience to start a career in almost any field of finance or accounting in the corporate world. Especially, focus areas such as asset pricing, econometrics and financial management will provide them with ample opportunities to secure well-paid jobs.

General Criteria

A related Bachelor’s Degree OR A related Graduate Diploma at Level 8

Alternative Criteria

25 years old, completion of a related Level 5 qualification, and 7 years of relevant experience (of which 3.5 years of experience is obtained after completion of a Level 5 qualification), and completion of an MQA approved Pre-Master’s Program OR 25 years old, completion of a related Level 6 qualification, and 6 years of relevant experience (of which 3 years of experience is obtained after completion of a Level 6 qualification), and completion of an MQA approved Pre-Master’s Program
